The holocaust was a historically big moment were lots of Jews were put in camps for being Jewish or even executed. Hitler thought that Jews were the reason they lost and had the treaty of Versailles and the loss of money and jobs. With this they needed a strong leader and Hitler was in there eyes but he wanted all Jews locked up or dead. In my book Yanek is challenged because he is put in many camps and becomes weak and without his family. He survived all of them but still has the ink tattoo on his arms for his number which is B-3087. It compares to us today because some people are still persecuted by religion or what they believe in. The book is in yanek's perspective his struggles, his life before and after and what happened to him and what he went threw, he went threw torture and put on trains and dead people and unsanitary life. This is what the character was going threw and struggling with.
